Technically, it's still January, so I'm just going to go ahead and do it. So, here are the top 13 things I would like to accomplish this year.
- Try more "new" vegetables. Last year we learned about brussel sprouts, I fell madly in love with parsnips, and we even tried a beet. This year I want to try: Celeriac, give Kale another shot, eggplant, and... Actually, in general I need to work on my side dishes more.
- Try more soups! I have pretty much stuck to my old stand by favorites - chicken and noodles, and chili. Delicious, but not very varied. I'm thinking this year of trying some fun new ones - like this and this!
- Salads. I know you can't tell it by looking at this blog, but I actually do like to eat salads. The problem is that I like to eat fancy salads, with 45 different ingredients, where it is actually more economical to go to a restaurant and buy a salad than to buy all the ingredients to make one. I need to change that.
- I got a sweet new Terrine for Christmas and I NEED to find some awesome recipes to use in it! Like maybe this?
- Let's talk Lentils. I know they exist, but I need to figure out what the heck to do with them!
- A crepe cake needs to happen.
- And this red velvet cake colored with red wine. Um, yes.
- I would also really like to learn how to color things naturally, without food coloring.
- I also want to continue on my sourdough quest. I really love this stuff. I know, you couldn't tell at all, could you?
- I want to get some DIY stuff done - learn how to make homemade coffee creamer, ketchup, vanilla, granola, chocolate syrup, etc.
- Bread, bread, bread, and more bread. I know I bake a lot of bread already, but there is a whole world of bread that I haven't even attempted yet.
- Try more healthy meatless meals. My meatless meals tend to be pancakes and grilled cheese sandwiches. Delicious, no doubt, but not really the pillar of healthy food.
- Cheeeeeese. Cheese is a super big deal in our house. And I have always wanted to learn to make it. And not just soft cheeses. I want to make hard cheeses coated in wax and sealed in caves somewhere in France. Or my refrigerator. Whichever works best.
So, there you have it! That is what I hope to work on this year, and hopefully the things you can look forward to seeing here. What new foods are you interested in trying this year? What new foods would you like to see on the blog?
